The Gemological Institute of American (GIA) has formulated a color grading for white loose diamonds. The rarest and those with the highest value are graded D to F. Grades G to J are the colorless ones while grades K to Z refer to those with tints of yellow.

Clarity measures a loose diamond's external blemishes and internal flaws or inclusions. Inclusions include air bubbles, cracks and other minerals inside the diamond. A grade F loose diamond is flawless inside and out and is quite hard to find. The grades range from F to SI and it is this grade which determines the loose diamond value.
